What Is Income?

“Income is the amount of money that is earned either by any person or company for doing a particular job within a specified duration of time”

Income Categories:

➥ Wage:

Wage is the amount of money that is given to the employees on a daily basis.

➥ Salary:

A particular amount of the money that is paid to the employee by the owner on an annual basis is called salary.

How Is Salary Calculated?

Salary calculation depends on the aspects of salary that is being calculated. To calculate the annual salary we need to multiply the gross pay (before tax deduction) by the number of pay periods per year.

Salary = Gross pay * Pay period per year

If we talk about the standard work week, an employee works for almost 40 hours per week. The salary calculator also considers the working hours and calculates the salary of the employees based on the payment frequencies that are enlisted below:

  • Hourly
  • Daily
  • Weekly
  • Bi-Weekly
  • Semi-monthly
  • Monthly
  • Quarterly
  • Annually

Vacation & Holidays Assumptions

The vacation period results in unpaid time off, which affects the yearly salary. For the vacations, specify the only days you take off from work excluding weekends and any official holidays.

When you take a three-week vacation that includes a holiday falling on a Tuesday, and you work a standard 5-day workweek, you would enter 14 vacation days into the calculator.

= 3 weeks * 5 days/week - 1 holiday

= 14 vacation days

Example # 01:

How much do I make a year if my monthly gross income is about $1893?

Solution:

Using yearly income formula:

Annual Salary = Monthly Salary * 12

Annual Salary = $1893 * 12

Annual Salary = $22,716

Example # 02:

Harry got a job in a company. He was offered an annual salary of about $32, 888. Calculate monthly salary.

Solution:

Here we have:

Monthly Salary = Gross Annual Salary / 12

Monthly Salary = $32, 888 / 12

Monthly Salary = $2740.66

Example # 03:

How to calculate annual income of Jack if he is working in a sweets bakery at an hourly rate of $14.8 for 8 hours daily?

Solution:

As Jack is working 8 hours per day, he is actually working for 56 hours per week.

So, we have:

Hourly salary = Annual Salary / 2080

Or

Annual Salary = Hourly salary * 2080

Annual Salary = $14.8 * 2080

Annual Salary = $30, 784

How Much is a 2.5 Percent Raise?

For instance, if your company is negotiating a 2.5 percent increase in annual salary if you are taking $2,500 per month

  • Monthly salary before raise = $2500
  • Raise percentage = 2.5%
  • Raise amount = $2500 * 2.5% = $62.50
  • New monthly salary = $2500 + $62.50 = $2562.50
