WHP to HP Calculator
The calculator will convert wheel horsepower to engine horsepower & vice versa.
Our WHP to Hp calculator helps to find the engine horsepower that is equivalent to the wheel horsepower. Also, you may get reverse conversions from HP to WHP with this tool.
WHP vs HP:
HP is the actual power of the vehicle’s engine. While on the other hand, WHP refers to the horsepower delivered to the wheel when the automobile is moving. Our smart WHP to HP converter readily performs to and fro conversions song both of these powers and saves you a lot of time.
- The actual difference between both terms is about 20 - 45%
WHP To BHP Formula:
Our calculator uses the following equations for conversions between WHP and HP:
WHP To HP Conversion:
\( \text{HP} = \frac{\text{WHP}}{1 - \text{DL}} \)
Where:
- \( \text{DL} \) = Drive train loss
HP To WHP Conversion:
\( \text{WHP} = \frac{\text{EHP}}{\text{DTLF}} \)
Where:
- \( \text{DTLF} \) = Drive train loss factor

Example:
If the wheel horsepower (WHP) of a car is 240 and the drivetrain loss is 35%, find the actual engine horsepower (HP) delivered to the wheels.
Solution:
Using the formula:
\( \text{HP} = \frac{\text{WHP}}{1 - \text{DL}} \)
Substitute the values (DL = 35% = 0.35):
\( \text{HP} = \frac{240}{1 - 0.35} \)
\( \text{HP} = \frac{240}{0.65} \)
\( \text{HP} \approx 369.23 \)
The actual engine horsepower delivered to the wheels is approximately 369.23 HP.
The negative indicates the horsepower is applied to the wheel in the opposite direction.
